It’s January, which means we’re back again putting our psychic abilities to good use. While last year we predicted that the colour silver would reign and knitwear would take the world by storm, this year will see a return to minimalism and a modern take on 90s effortless chic.
One takeaway from 2023 streetwear trends is that there are more ways to be femme than just figure-hugging fits.
In 2024, we expect a lean further into appreciating how sexy simplicity can be, having a bit more fun and caring a bit less.
Let’s break it down.
Leopard print: in or out?

Sienna Bentley (SB): I’m a sucker for leopard print, so maybe this is wishful thinking. I don’t think leopard print ever really went out of the mainstream, but I’m expecting (hoping?) to see it come back with a bang. I’m thinking leopard print faux-fur coats as the perfect layer to finish off a maximalist outfit, or, as seen on our queen Devon Carlson, leopard-print tights to zjuzh up something a bit simpler. Where can I find me a pair of those?
Oversized fashion is underrated

Ray Leach (RL): One key takeaway from 2023 is that there are more ways to be femme than just figure-hugging fits. I hope that we’ll see more oversized shirts, shorts, jeans and scarves on everyone in 2024. Classic knitwear pieces should also continue to reign.
A modern take on the 90s ‘model off duty’ and office chic

SB: We’re bringing the ’90s and early 2000s back, but better. I’m very excited about that. I’ve heard others predict the return of the skinny jean, but I’m choosing not to see that. Instead, I’m anticipating chunky leather (and red) belts with interesting buckles to accessorise straight-leg jeans. Leather jackets will never go out of style, but I expect that brown will surge in popularity (finally).

RL: We may also see an increase in minimalism, particularly on nights out. The comeback of ’90s basics has been around for years, but I sense that there’ll be more smart office wear: long pencil skirts, high-neck tops and blouses. Overall, I expect we’ll lean further into appreciating how sexy simplicity can be on anyone.
A cottage-core resurgence

SB: I predict that a cottagecore-style resurgence is on the horizon, just in time for summer. I’m already seeing long silhouettes coming back in trend, with an emphasis on femininity with lots of flowing material and earthy tones. I think this will be done by playing around with the concept of ‘smart-casual’, as seen in the image above, putting unconventional pieces together and seeing what works.
