After a restful festive hiatus, our resident psychics (us) are back for the highly anticipated annual fashion trend forecast. With our predictions for 2024 holding true, see what styles, colours and materials will take 2025 by storm. Trust us, we’ve seen the future.

Spoiler alert: Brat summer isn’t over just yet.

1. Hot pants

Can we call this a more conservative take on last year’s ‘no-pants’ trend? We’re already seeing the likes of Charli xcx and models on the runway embracing micro shorts. They’re telling us that hot pants don’t have to be gold lycra to pass.

2. Neutrals and earth tones

Some might argue that colour schemes can’t go in and out of style. We disagree. Vehemently. Not just because we predicted silver to have its moment in the spotlight in 2023 – which it did.

We saw a resurgence of cottage core last year with whites, creams and pale yellows. We’re envisioning a softer, darker take on that. Brown is becoming a new staple, at least in our wardrobes. Think muted colours, pale greens, dark denim. Beige doesn’t have to be boring.

3. Elaborate up-dos

If 2024 was the year of sexy simplicity, 2025 is the year of bold bravery. Hair is a key accessory in itself, which often can go under-utilised. We foresee more intricate styles to top off the perfect look, embracing your natural hair and harkening back to the past – particularly on the runway.

Everybody has bobby pins, but they’re often not used enough. Up-dos can be scruffy or pin tight, but either way they really elevate an outfit.

4. Chunky jewellery and mixing metals

The step towards mixing metals has been tentative, but we think 2025 has a “to hell with it” attitude, which we’re so here for. That extends to accessories. Historically, mixing gold and silver jewellery has been seen as an absolute no-go zone – you were either gold, or you were silver. Well, you already know that at bite mag we don’t stay in one lane. Why not do both?

2025 is about making a statement, and that’ll be reflected through chunky, in-your-face pieces, or lots of layering of classic, daintier accessories. In both colours.

5. Circus/clown core

What was that about making a statement? Oh yeah.

2025 already feels dystopian. Politically and technologically, nothing makes sense anymore. The clownery of it all makes us feel as though streetwear should have fewer boundaries. Why not wear striped shorts, opaque tights and fluffy collars?

Dramatic makeup looks and layering unexpected pieces have always been personal fashion favourites of ours – and if we like it, it must be coming back. We expect people to take fashion a bit less seriously in 2025, treating it like it should be: fun.

6. Collared shirts

A fresh take on college chic – we suspect that creative collars will be all the rage. Even the simplest of collars can elevate a look by peeping out of a sweater.

This trend will probably bring ties back in with it, which we’re not unhappy about, either.

7. Animal print

Look, yes, we know, we say this every year. But that’s because animal print never goes out of style – and we’d cry if it did. While we accurately predicted the comeback of faux fur coats (just in time for the relatively short-lived ‘mob-wife’ aesthetic) in 2024, this year might be a bit more subtle – if that’s possible. Think tights, stilettos, gloves, belts, hats, even umbrellas (as seen above). It’s going to be all about the leopard-print accessory to zhuzh up a simpler look.

8. Trash fashion

With sustainability being such a hot topic in the fashion world right now, it makes sense that creative trendsetters will take this concept to a whole new level.

As we start to see reused red carpet gowns, this should be a clear sign that we need to be more resourceful when dressing ourselves. See Anna Molinari on Instagram for some insane inspiration.
