As avid cinema goers scramble to sign the petition to save the beloved Prince Charles Cinema (PCC) in Leicester Place, I want to take a brief moment to look back on the good times spent in this movie palace rather than focus on the fear of losing her altogether.

In my first year of production, I was faced with many daunting yet thrilling challenges. One of those was hosting a film premiere. It was for our directors BRBR – a dynamic duo who had made a feature-length documentary/drama La Mala Familia (2022). We had a fabulous turnout and the night went swimmingly, which was largely due to the wonderfully accommodating staff at the PCC. Laying out film flyers on the leathery cinema seats was surreal, as I had previously sat in those same seats as a guest many times.

Going further back in the rolodex of PCC memories, we have the screening and Q&A of The Room (2003). All cinephiles simultaneously shudder and smile at the thought of this movie; it was hilarious. Seeing Tommy Wiseau himself was legendary and unforgettable. Though I never saw Big Shark (2023), I do wonder what else he’s cooking up these days.

P.S. I’ll be going to see Bladerunner (1982) this weekend, so be there or be square.
